The Community Foundation for Merseyside has established the Bootle Emergency Flood Appeal in partnership with Sefton Council, One Vision Housing, Sefton CVS and St. Leonard's Church in Bootle. This is for charitable purposes in connection with the relief of hardship within Bootle caused directly or indirectly by flooding in July 2010.

Priorities for grant-making are:-

Individuals and families suffering financial hardship and

Community and voluntary organisations providing relief and ‘rebuilding’ projects

49 households have been directly affected by the flooding. The area that has been affected is one of the most socially deprived areas in the UK, with 42.2% of the local population being unemployed compared to a 15.9% average for Sefton.

As is to be expected, when people are struggling to survive, relatively few people have contents insurance preferring to spend their money on food and clothing, much of which has now been lost or damaged, along with their furniture and carpets. There are several single parent families among those affected, mostly with very young children who have not only lost their homes but also the childrens toys.

The effect of flooding is causing financial hardship and emotional distress. The aim of the fund is to alleviate some of the financial hardship by supporting individuals affected by the flooding, both in the short-term and long-term.

Substantial financial losses have occurred as a result of the flooding of July 2010. The appeal target is currently set at £25,000.
