Lesbian & Gay Foundation: David's Story

Picture of LGF: David's story

“I had been thinking about getting a HIV test for about 2 years, but for one reason or the other (more like excuses), I didn’t get around to it. Then I found out that the Lesbian & Gay Foundation were offering rapid HIV testing where I could get the results in 20 minutes. The fact that no appointment was needed really made the service approachable. I didn’t plan to go to the clinic, until I was walking past and then all of a sudden I was inside. The staff were really friendly, and the nurses made me feel comfortable.

I would definitely recommend this service to anyone who thinks they need toget a test. It’s quick, hassle free and reassuring."

David, 25, Lancashire

The Lesbian and Gay Foundation aims to reduce the numbers of gay and bisexual men who are picking up and passing on HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, through easy-to-access health services such as free condom schemes, screening services and information resources.

Encouraging gay and bisexual men to test can be very difficult in traditional clinical settings. A HIV test given at the Lesbian & Gay Foundation costs £4, which can…
• help stop the spread of HIV, which can cost the NHS £16,000 per person per year in treatment
• reduce the thousands of men nationwide who are unaware they are living with HIV

Now is the time to listen to, value and invest in groups like the Lesbian and Gay Foundation who are delivering value for England’s North West.
